What Do You Give Your Kid Da For Seasonal Allergies?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello
My son is 5 years old with ASD. About two weeks ago he started having really bad seasonal allergies and so far we have tried Zyrtec and Flonase both with very limited positive help but mostly all negative side effects like aggression lethargic and just not acting like himself. So I wanted to know what everyone gives there kids or what have you tried and if and what has worked positively or negatively. Please and thank you.

My 25yo Aspie son had been sent home when he was in grade school 'cause school nurse thought he had conjunctivitis where it was really just seasonal allergies oozing out of his eyes and nose. Poor kids! For years, he takes an over the counter Loratadine 10mg daily. He also had weekly allergy injections since he's pretty allergic to everything. He's very good about remembering to take his daily pill, but watch out for the sneezing sounds! He'll rip through a box of tissues in no time. Watch out, too, for super hard nose blowing and resultant nose bleeds. Ugh. We do what we can to help e.g. windows shut on high allergy days, AC filters changed, warm and cold showers as needed, etc. Best of luck to you and your son!

@A MyAutismTeam Member We have used Claritin 5 mg and later 10 mg for the seasonal allergies. Claritin in Reditabs - easy to take tablets dissolving without water. BTW, our son's allergies 'moved' from severe when he was 2-5 years old to mild starting 11 y.o. Hopefully, he overgrew them.
