Hello all! I have a 21 month old little girl who has moderate autism, she still has no words used to say papa but no longer says it. Although she does babble with consonants and vowel combination but still no proper words. Should I panic and speak to a speech path? She's currently having ABA therapy 8 hrs a week. Her imitation is still not great and we're working on it. Should we wait until she masters imitation as speaking is imitation right? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
We just talked about that in our Autism support group. Some toddlers don't speak until 3 or 4 yrs old. I wouldn't panic but keep your pediatrician in the loop and follow up with reading, lots of reading.
Hi.. My son had a full vocabulary and by age 15mo he lost everything. I was able to do a stem cell infusion which helped him a lot. What i wanted to recommend that helped him was endless abc and endless reader apps from the app store. They are free. It helped him a ton. I wish i could share the videos to show you. Hes 7 now. He talks still tough to understand though sometimes
grand daughter talked up until 2 then nothing shes 8 now and is very verbal work with her and give her some time i beleave she will start saying more
hi @A MyAutismTeam Member i have read more than words but felt like it's effective to those with just speech delays and not to children with asd as it suggests following a child's lead. Its just hard to do with my kid who's got no joint attention and poor eye contact.
hi @A MyAutismTeam Member she being looked after by a BCBA-D and a case manager who is a BCBA-A and rbts do her therapy 8hrs a week so 2hrs x 4 days. CM's advice is to work on imitation and eye contact first because speech therapy will just do the same thing and would just cost us additional money. But then makes me think she is not receiving enough hours to help with her speech. Dont know if I have to wait until she masters imitation and eye contact before proceeding with speech therapy.
