Anyone who has Medicaid especially in Texas, how is the coverage for autism? I was told that preauthorization is required for speech and OT. How difficult is it to get the preauthorization? Thanks
Speech and OT are generally provided through the school district. These services, if the child qualifies, are addressed in the IEP. As a parent, you can request the school evaluate your child for these services.
Your welcome. Yes, you need a Medicaid doctor as well. When we did get speech thru insurance it was anywhere from 12 to 18 visits in a six week period. One of those visits will be assessment around six weeks to see if Medicaid will continue services.
Also make sure you are signed up through the Burke Center to get your daughter on the waiver program waiting list. So when she ages out at 18 you can either Foster her in your home which is HCS (Home and Community based living) and ask about the others program . This way you find which one is most suited for you and you child for her transition.
Thank you @A MyAutismTeam Member. Does the dr need to be in Medicaid network too? May I know how many hours you get for speech /OT?
My adult daughter is on Medicaid. All we need is a script written by her doctor and then given to a speech and occupational therapist that is in the medicaid network.
