I'm looking for away to understand my son. I know there are Devices out there. Just wondering if anyone uses any and can direct me in the right way. Thanks
Have you ever tried PECS?? It is a visual tool to help with communication at a younger ages say 2-5
Thanks everyone. He is in school and they do use a device but last year his teacher wasn't very helpful. So I'm doing my p an research
@A MyAutismTeam Member, I went through this with my son. He stopped speaking at the age of 2 and started back up at the age of 5. I used PECS with him, they worked wonders, along with ABA Therapy. Also because he's your boy, and you know what his interests are and incorporate them with his learning, so example for my son, he was really into horses and Star Wars, It takes a lot of hard work and time, sure you can do it. Good luck!
I would recommend the picture exchange communication system PECS first before you introduce an AAC device! Both are definitely extremely effective forms of communication however sometimes it's important to start with a basic visual "PEC" before introducing a device!
I use pictures for emotions/feelings. Basic sign language for other things (stop, help, bathroom, hungry, thirsty...)
