So, my 10 year old started her period almost a year ago now, but up until just about a month ago it was very light, just spotty, but now she is having heavy bleeding. She lives with her dad, and he had to keep her home from school in May and June during her cycles. She doesn't like pads, I guess she won't wear a pull up and she pulls pads apart and plays with the blood. So far I have only had her on the very first period, which was just a spot of blood, and, the very end of a day of this last… read more

Aloha! I feel for you. My daughter had her first menses at 10 also and is non verbal. It took a while to teach her that she has to leave the pad on and not play with the blood. She is 11.5 yrs now and I still need to check her in the bathroom while shes on it. She is still curious and plays but understands shes not supposed to.
At night she wears a diaper for nocturnal incontinence so no need for a pad.
As far as rashes you could try cloth pads. I know this is rough on the men but so is taking your baby for an exam for rashes etc down there. It would be worth it I think. Also flushable wipes or just regular baby wipes, she may be wiping too nuch trying to get the blood off.
I hope this helps a little 😊
