A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I had not finished sorry.

Is it ok to top lock entry doors to stop kids getting into the most dangerous rooms and endangering themselves?
I am considrring my kitchen too.
Our boy is non verbal not instructional no concept of danger hot or cold, sensory seeking!

Thanks in advance.

Ps he has plenty of rooms that are safe and lots of run around space!

I dont want to infringe on his rights!?

I forgot to mention you can get the door knob block in a kit which also had blocks to keep kids from getting in to dangerous cabinets and I also use those for drawers with sharp utensils too....you can get it in any baby isle...the brand is safety 1st.. and I don't know if you have the issue we have ...but if your son climbs on your kitchen table or pushed kitchen chairs where he shouldn't you could try what we have and put them on the table stacked.
Just trying to help out as much as I can as I am currently going through all of this too.

I agree...keeping him safe if very important...he reminds me ALOT of my son who is 3...so nonverbal and has no sense of danger ECT.
I did find some really good gates that are tall and latch and swing open rather then having to be climbed over...if you would like more precaution or just another idea for other areas I can give you the brand name of the gates we use.....and something else that has helped especially with bathrooms is a doorknob safety block.....it fits over the handle and only adults or older kids can get through...i use one one my bathroom...basement and front door....its a life saver!!....just a few ideas!😊
