Does Anyone Have Any Experience With HBOT? (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've been reading a bit about HBOT (Hyperbaric oxygen therapy), there is a facility near me. My son is seven years old, and at an age when his prefrontal cortex is going through a growth stage, I felt it might be beneficial. My paediatrician feels there's not enough research to confirm any success with HBOT. And she is more conservative regarding treatments. There can be negative side effects which are deterring. I thought I'd ask if anyone else has any experience with this therapy!

This is given (may not be quite the same) in hospitals to Stroke victims and I believe babies can have it too after birth issues, the sooner the treatment takes place closer to the injury the better. I have read up on this and wondered why our hospital on day to post birth told us my son needed to wait in hospital until day 6 to have a scan as they suspected hydrocephalus....we could have been on pure oxygen to heal any damage suspected.
I feel angry about this.

@A MyAutismTeam Member....I have heard of it but I haven't been offered the use of that treatment for either of my two boys because our Medical Insurance does not usually cover treatments that are not considered as the conventional or standard treatment.....I do need to check into it though,...maybe our insurance does cover it and just no one has ever told me that...It would Not be the First time that has happened. A bit of advice-Be Pro -Active in researching Everything you can about possible treatments that might be beneficial to your your son and His Individual needs.Personally I think it is easy for someone to say NOT to Consider a treatment when they aren't the parent agonizing over WHAT to do.ECSPECIALLY when it's not Their Child that will suffer losing out on the opportunity of a beneficial treatment.I know Doctors truly care, but many Doctors have a particular closed mindset about what treatments should be considered or included.......

My son did it when he was younger. I went in with him. I think we only did it once or twice. Read a book to him to overcome my own feelings of claustrophobia. He did fine. Didn't really see the big change I was hoping for. But I like to think it did him some good.

My son went they it at around 6 or 7 years of age. We had 40 treatments 1 per day. Is hard to say how well it worked.l because with autism everything moves so slow. Today my son is 12 years old. He has more eye focus has regain some speech and communicates his needs. When I first measured his Atec score I would say he was around 80-90 and now he is around 30.
