Hyponotherapy For Skin Picking?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone tried hypnotherapy on a kid with Aspergers/ASD? My son excessively picks & eats both his nose and his skin/scabs. I'm desperate to find a way to stop him.
If you've had any success with any therapy, I'm all ears!

Hi, just tossing this out there. Sensory-seeking with fingertips may have deep-brain roots. When our son was a little guy, we were told that his poking, stroking, etc might be related to oral reflex development. So we focused on oral stimulation. It might have been coincidental, but we saw progress! He's a fidgeter! There are lots of oral stim toys on the market to try like chew necklaces, spinners, squishy things that are socially appropriate and blend into mainstream fidget-y stuff. If you are in try-anything mode, this might be worth a try. If you'd like ideas message me. :)

There is something called Habit Reversal Training. Also check website for BFRB support group. You can google body focused repetitive behavior support and you should find it. A board certified behavior analyst should be able to help, but a lot of folks do not have much experience with BFRBs.
