Hello, I am currently appealing placement of my son in a community classroom to be able to have him included in a regular SK classroom with appropriate EA support and special education assistance as he is diagnosed with ASD and significantly delayed in language and social skills. He is however capable of learning and knows his alphabet, can count to 20 and enjoys music.

Thank you Vic. I am in Canada. Unfortunately we do not have the equivalent of the IDEA regulation that you have. However, in theory, school boards are supposed to follow the approach you outlined above. The school board we are in has chosen to implement their special ed program in such a way that they only provide 2 periods of EA/spec ed support in a regular classroom (total of 80 minutes a day). If the child requires more support in a regular classroom, they are segregated into a 'community classroom'. This is the essence of my argument - with appropriate support, he is able to function in a regular classroom. Thank you for your response. I appreciate the encouragement.
