Late Diagnosis
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone have experience with getting a diagnosis for an older child? My step daughter is 10 and still hasn't had testing. We are finally on a waitlist for neuropsych. Any advice on what we cando while we wait?

to Late Diagnosis: did the neuropsych office let you know how long you might have to wait? Does he see a pediatrician? I ask, because you can try to go to a medical dr such as the pediatrician who may be able to prescribe blood work . to make sure his body functions are ok. If something is out of "whack" , it is possible that could be treated ; not saying you want anything to be wrong, but I think it is important to check out the whole "operating system" of the body. At least you can find out before you see the neuropsych. I wish I had more ideas for you. Everyone tells us that our guy is 8 ALREADY and that he should be improving. But those comments come from people who are not on "the journey". I feel pressured because I think to myself--"is it too late"? And then, I try to think that as long as we are trying and not giving up, that it is never too late.
I wish you good luck and I hope that you get the appointment very soon.
