So...Now What?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

So, My Son, Stephen has been invited to another ASD Student's/Bus Rider's place
Stephen accepted.
He's never been invited in this manner before.
I am not concerned about Him as I am in Myself.
I am going to treat this as My Parents had when I was younger, but the difference is I will be there, in the background.
I don't see this 1st visit lasting all that long, but it's a 1st step for Him.

-What (as the Parent/Care giver) should I be looking forwards to
-What can I do to make this 1st… read more

That's wonderful! Relax and as @A MyAutismTeam Member said, a smile will work wonders. You could possibly discuss beforehand with Stephen to never feel like he can't come to you and say he has had a good time there, though he feels he has spent enough time there for his first meet and can you leave. Hoping that he stays a while firstly and gives it time to fruit some in common talk, interests or discuss their own individual likes with eachother. Make Stephen is aware that he should not feel embarrassed to ask to go to the toilet or for glass of water etc, the host will expect those things!
You may want to bring a small token over like a packet of Stephens favourite biscuits and the host will more than likely offer you tea or coffee which always induce good relaxed chat! Nothing too expensive its just a gesture of not coming to someone's home empty handed, this may be an Irish thing but Irish people would feed other Irish people to death in their houses, you usually get offered 6 cups of tea and the likes of in an Irish persons house, we are very into tea and chat and hostessing!
Good luck to both of you, you will be fine!
X.
