A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do you have a recommended resource or approach to evaluating autism and special education programs in public schools?

See if there is a Montessori school that works with autistic children in your area. There is one about 40 miles from us but that is too far. I wish there were more.

I would recommend going on a tour, visit the classroom and talk with the teacher and staff. In my experience the staff in the public school spec ed setting was not at all qualified and my son paid the price the entire kindergarten year. It was an experience that has scarred me forever but also bittersweet in a sense as the experience led us to the private school he is in now. I thank God every single day for bringing this new school into our lives. My son has made amazing progress and benefits from the caring and qualified staff as well as the full ABA based educational program he is in now. Ask LOTS of questions about their ABA based practices, ask the teachers what they know about autism, sensory issues, how aggression is handled, how many other students are in the class., etc ..good luck to you
