Anyone successful in getting their kids to do physical activities or exercise to prevent obesity? If so, what has worked for you? My daughter is on the heavier side, not overweight or obese yet but I worry she’s heading that way. Swimming is something we’re planning to do regularly this summer. Any other suggestions? She’ll be 5 next month

I will tell you about exercises that have aerobic potential but have been used in the researches for improving behavior and not for losing weight - what doesn't mean that they can not be useful for losing weight.
Jogging and swimming are the most common physical activities used with autistic children for behavior improvement in scientific research. Also, dancing and bicycling in front of a videogame are indicated as great activities too, in a research that I will leave the reference.
If you can choose between activities that the child should only use the arms (e.g., baseball) versus activities that he/she uses the legs on the entire body, I tend to think that using the whole body should be preferred because of it's aerobic potential - but a physical education professional should know better than me.

My autistic son loves parks and rec soccer, basketball, and baseball. See what you have in your community. Make sure to tell the teacher your child is special needs, so they don't think your kid is acting out, or not listening. (I made that mistake last week)
