Almost 4 Years Old Non Verbal, Scrawling Or Pushing People
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My almost four year old non verbal autistic nephew has recently started to scrawl people - On their arms, hands, feet etc. Does anyone know, why he might be doing this? or how we can help him prevent him from doing so?
All advice appreciated.

Thanks

ABA has been the best therapy for managing "unwanted behaviours" . I highly recommend it. the results are immediate. Usually it comes out of frustration of not being able to be understood.

Here is a checklist that you might find helpful for identifying potential sources of aggression: https://wearelikeyourchild.blogspot.co.za/2014/...

It's always better to identify the cause of the aggressive behaviors and address that rather than trying to modify the behavior without addressing the cause. I would not recommend using behavior modification therapy to eliminate aggressive behaviors, because training a child to be aggressive without determining what's causing them to lash out will always have a negative impact on the child, even if it's not noticeable at first.

It is a very new thing, he has started to do. I will take note when he does it again and try to see what could be causing him to do so.

Is it an anxiety issue? When does it happen? My son will get aggressive when he is frustrated or anxious
