Menstrual Cycle.....yikes!!!
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello everyone.. hope all is well with everyone. I have a question for the mothers of high functioning daughters..how did you handle the anxiety of your daughter getting their cycle? My daughter is only 9 so i have time (hopefully) but i have been stressing over this day. My daughter has sensory issues and absolutely hates anything wet on her. She will take her clothes off on site and this can be very challenging for both of us. To the mothers, how did you handle this problem?

As a single dad, I was concerned about this issue because of my daughter's sensory overload. Of course being wet was a no no. The first thing I invested in was a nylon bloomer type underpants during her cycle. When using good pads with wings, they didn't cling to her during her period like cotton underpants. Of course when saturated off they went. I even showed her how to prepare her underwear after disposal of the old pad. Her school followed suit during this time of the month.

My daughter is 11, and semi verbal, this is the second time on her cycle. First time panic mode & OCD mode, and she had trouble putting on the pad. Second time much better, she even ask for medicine, but I had to remind her to put on and change her pads. I found out she likes Kotex pads better than Always and I keep flushable wipes on her.

Hi my daughter is 12 has some sensory issues one of many is being wet but not a huge issue. She now has her period and she is handling it surprisingly well the pads are not an issue but she has to be reminded to change then more often even in school
I know it's not an answer. She got her period before she was diagnosed but I'm sure I would have worried.
