So we all know have a child with ASD can be difficult.. They sometimes find that nerve and just bounce on it. That being said.. What is your vice? Say you are having the most difficult day, your little one is uncooperative. Husband or wife are at work and you are close to melt down level. What do you do? Do you lock yourself ina room do you go to the restroom and cry it out, do you go outside to have a smoke.. Share your thoughts please.

Members shared deeply personal strategies for managing stress when parenting children with autism, with recurring methods including stepping outside for fresh air, using headphones to play loud music during meltdowns, and finding small moments alone like sitting in a parking lot or taking brief bathroom breaks. Several members mentioned comfort foods, crying, prayer, smoking or cannabis, and physical outlets like walking the dog or yard work as essential tools for regaining composure. A powerful theme was the isolation many feel without nearby family or trusted respite care, and the bond formed through shared understanding that sometimes survival means stepping back, breathing, and giving yourself grace to fall apart before putting the pieces back together.

I take the dog for a walk or in the yard. Just breathing outside ready helps me.
And cookies. Cookies help. Lol

@A MyAutismTeam Member We have been working on healthier ways to relieve stress. All the evidence shows it's awful for you and if you're taking care of an ASD kiddo (s). I scream like a banshee in traffic sometimes, so that helps 😁

@A MyAutismTeam Member... I cry a lot. Then I go about what I have to do.... I like comfort food when I’m having a real bad day

Same here. My family lives in Texas and my wife’s family in Maryland. Most of our friends have moved on and we have no one who can watch our daughter. We are looking into respite services. I shift work, so my schedule is different from week to week. I hate being at work and worrying about home. Its hard to focus sometimes. We deal with aggression also. I have had to leave work to go home.
