My son didn't get diagnosed until he was about 30. He also has ADHD and at the time was also diagnosed with depression. The doctor took away the depression diagnosis and added the autism. I have asked my family to research it and they won't. I don't get it!
People who are not educated about ASD are often in denial. I would just disregard their opinion as the Dr. Is an expert. It doesn't matter anyway because it doesn't change the facts. Just focus on your child and help him as you are and you
Ricker1111 too right ! Diagnosis ? More like diagnonsence .
Exactly the same situation with me . Forget other people . It's your sons wishes you have to be concerned with because at the end of the day that's who really matters right ? Doesn't mater what they diagnose him with how does it affect your sons life . If it's going to help him in areas like work etc . Depending on what and when he wants to talk about how he feels , I just say roll with it . Just try not to worry about who thinks what . Good luck x
I have several family members as well who are the same. They think my son has a discipline problem, that my husband and I aren't doing a good enough job. It can be so frustrating. Hang in there!
