Yes if you have insurance you can get private speech, occupational or physical therapy if needed. Also if your insurance covers it. You can also get ABA therapy because of the diagnosis if covered.

A prescription by a developmental pediatrician for ABA may be needed for any insurance company, with the ABA ed healthcare benefit offered, to approve non-educational therapists. However, several non-for-profit therapy centers are considered ABA educational centers. I'd first ensure to obtain a list of local providers from your insurance carrier as well as the Rx. Good luck!

I was able to get insurance to cover speech and OT based on the therapist specific diagnosis, but ABA and disability needed an M.D.

It should. We gave the PCP a copy of the evaluation and he added the diagnosis to their chart. He then made referrals for services based on that diagnosis code. Often the diagnostic criteria used by education professionals is more stringent than what the medical professionals use. The criteria used in education adds the requirement that the condition adversely effects the child's education.
