We have moved to a new state. The waitlist is 14 years. I have 2 higher functioning kids with autism and one with ADHD but we all desperately need help.
It was not called Medicaid waiver, we had to prove he was qualified with no assets, no money! We had been keeping him, he was our son. We didn't question much. 1 time I filed for SSI and had to pay it all back.
During those 20 years he was working in the workshop. He had friends there, both caregivers and fellow workers. He was not tormented.
I am so much the senior here. We were not able to file for John until he was 18, for Social Security. I would start there, that is a federal provision for permanently disabled. John, finally, received Medicaid at the age of 38.
We had started using the PA OVR in high school. It is currently on hold as he is in college, and needed to focus on courses. He will hopefully do some more career searching with me this summer. They will take him to interview people in careers he likes.
The whole system has regressed then...for NTs and differently abled.
@A MyAutismTeam Member you mean Medicaid waiver right? Because Medicaid is supposed to be automatic when they qualify for SSDI.
What did he DO during those 20 years? Did he have friends? Weβre you able to find places where he could BE and not be tormented?
