Which State Has The Best Services For Adult Children With Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

My 19 year old son has ASD/BIPOLAR II and we are in IL. There is nothing here to help him. Not even a decent hospital if he needs help. I was looking at possibly florida or Arizona. But I'm afraid to leave the state and lose his medicaid waiver. However the waiver has done nothing but make him wait for 3 yrs. He has no assistance at this time and his behavior and mental health is declining. I'm visually impaired so I really need help ASAP. :(

Depends where in Fl you live. Northern Pinellas County has no resources, special need schools, support groups. If you don’t live in Tampa or southern end of county in St Petersburg, there is no help.

I thought FLorida was a good state for special needs.

Our experience has not been a good one in Florida. We are in the process of relocating to Massachusetts. We have had very positive feedback from there. Also upstate NY and Massachusetts are rated #'so 1 & 2 on the researches I did for my 24year old

The school my son attends is specifically for disabled children (K - age 22). They offer therapies through out the week, and with older kids introduction and inclusion into the community. We are in North Florida. My son is low functioning ASD/PDD. He is on medicaid, which we have had a few problems with, but once we got a new case worker, appears to have gotten better. If you want more info, let me know....
