Childproofing Kitchens?

Hello MAT friends. We are moving in a few weeks, and our new home has a gas stove with buttons and controls all at hip level. We currently have electric stove and all buttons and controls are on top toward back against the wall.

My son is going through a stage right now where he LOVES opening and closing the dishwasher and the oven, and pushing all the bottons on the dishwasher. When we did a walkthru of the new place he was pushing all the buttons on the oven and having a field day.

So, seems like your kiddo is interested in machinery. I would get him something he can control on his own. I don’t know his age, but look into a remote control helicopter or car. Another suggestion, make him a custom control panel. There’s a great link:

I'm guessing you have an open floorplan. When my kids were that young we were able to purchase an extra long gate to close off the one opening to the kitchen area.

Thank you. My son is 5. A gate might be good, but he is very agile and may figure out how to climb over it. Love the remote control car idea....
