Where To Get Blood Drawn?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My pediatrician does not have blood draw in her office. We went to Quest yesterday and we left because, even though they said they do pediatric blood draws, he was very resistant in a way that I thought would make him never want to get his blood drawn again if I forced it. They also didn’t seem to have anything special for kids- no numbing spray, no quiggles like they say they have on their website- she said they don’t do quiggles anymore. Where do you go to get a successful blood draw? Or… read more

We have had issues with Quest and I am also concerned about him having negative association. We go to the children's hospital and they are wonderful. They are great with blood, rays, etc...

We are fortunate to also have his pediatrician being able to draw in her office. She has several patients on the spectrum so her staff knows to make it least traumatizing. If he is too upset, she will just delay it for another day.

I never heard of Quiggles. I wish we had such a thing. G just gets held down while he screams.

Same experience with Quest for 15yrs. We had a great office back in PA that had several people always working around late afternoon on certain days. I would ask when they had a large staff day and go then. I sat in the chair first, put my son on my lap so we looked like stacking chairs and I’d hold him by his waist and wrap my legs around his. They took care of the arms and I’d try and not get a tooth knocked out! Seriously!!! Always a nightmare experience but it was only once/ twice a year on average. As horrible as it sounds it was the quickest and easiest way to do it and be out.

@A MyAutismTeam Member, I take Stephen to the Hospital and request a EMS person to stick Stephen. They are more accurate and quick causing less stress. Use your phone to play music or a video as a distraction and Verbally reward when the task is done.
