Mildly Autistic Son With Peanut / Egg Allergy And Sensitivity To Dairy
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We are SO LIMITED on what healthy foods Dylan can / will eat as we deal with the autism related food texture issues as well as the exacerbating complications that come with a severe peanut and egg allergy with sensitivity to dairy (causing an eczema like reaction). Any suggestions for tasty, healthy foods and recipes are most appreciated! We use an egg replacement product, dairy free brands like Daiya cheese, Silk dairy free milk products, and "Sun Butter" instead of peanut butter. Canned… read more

I’ve learned a lot having a picky eater in the past 17yrs of his life (21 total years if I add my daughter).
If I could go back in time and inform myself I would say this...

Your going to hear ALOT of lies but use your working brain. Do you eat fruit? Does it taste good? Yeah? Have you lived long enough or have access to your parents or grandparents? Ask them to eat today’s fruits and vegetables( HELL, ANY non processed foods), ask them does anything taste the same. No vegetables or fruits taste anywhere close to what they tasted like 20yrs ago. Why don’t they, because the soil is so depleted of vitamins and minerals and even our farming techniques are different. BigAgro doesn’t put the minerals like magnesium and zinc and vitamin A, B, E (and a host of others) in the fertilizer mix anymore. Do some research and they flat out disclose it! ALL of those vitamins are 100% known vitamins that kids with ASD’s have deficiency in! Over 80% of ASD kids! So those healthy foods are deficient of major vitamins by 40% or more. Tomatoes aren’t as red as you remember because of the lack of magnesium and potassium in the soil (the wife “try’s” to grow her own for fun). I understand the thought, your trying to teach healthy options and I so agree but extreme allergies are a nightmare also. I say this, buy a really good quality multivitamin that you can get your kid to eat everyday and focus on simplifying their diet so it’s safe against those life threatening allergies first. Then focus on healing their gut with vitamins and supplements (fully detailed medical journals on a website like PubMed will give you info to take to your MD for argument). “Heal the gut, heal the child” and THEN go back to focusing on adding healthy options to the diet. You unfortunately CAN’T get your child to eat enough vegetables to fill in the deficiency. Just put your child on magnesium and zinc and 3 months later you’ll be dealing with a different kid. YouTube what those two vitamins do in the body and you’ll probably have half of your autism cure (symptoms wise), right there. Start right now doing what I’m doing...buy some pretty cheap vitamin c (citric acid) gel caps and work on teaching your kid to swallow pills. Do it as a swallow this and you get a reward (aka, whatever they were asking for in the first place). It may take awhile and don’t forget to put all pills up and away in a secure place ALWAYS! Why use vitamin C? It’s medically proven you cannot OD on Vitamin C (it’s impossible, literally medically proven). Perfect pill to practice with and the added C will only help boost their immunity against this Corona thing. If you need any help with medical articles let me know. I have found myself so excited with the results this past year with reading about vitamins that some nights I find I haven’t slept! I’m seeing results with my son AND daughter AND wife!!

Thanks. This really helps me in the vit & min category. I am really trying to enhance the meal time experience such that we can prepare and eat foods / dishes that we all like to sit down and eat and enjoy the family experience of a shared meal.
