Anyone Can Give Me Some Potty Training Tips? Please
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know that potty training has to be consistent but what if that still doesn't work. And also how is potty training possible with only one bathroom and many people? Can a portable potty be use or would that be confusing. Do potty training have to have rewards and what if you can't find a reward. I know this takes awhile depending on the child , some learn fast some may take longer and I understand that. Please and thank you for any feedback

My 8 year old ASD son only became potty trained this year! We still have to help him with cleaning up and all, and he thinks he has to sit on the potty totally naked, lol! But he's out of pull-ups, so that's the important thing! Consistency is the only thing that worked, taking him in the bathroom every 20 minutes, half hour..using a timer if you need a reminder. We didn't give him any rewards or anything. We are still working on our five-year old neuro-typical son getting potty trained...he just isnt ready yet, and that's key too. When they're ready to start potty training, they'll let you know! If they're not, give it a week and try again and so-forth. Good luck!!

My daughter wasnt 100% potty trained until kindergarten. They are all different and its finding what kind of learner your child is. And expect accidents, never get angry or annoyed, we are parents have to change too our way of thinking too. ♡ The biggest lesson ive learned go with the flow and just be happy in the now.

My kid didn’t understand where the poop went when it went into toilet and thought he was losing a body part. I tried to explain as much as I could about the sewer system and to explain if he falls in the toilet, he would be too big to go down the hole so it was safe. Keep talking and explaining to her as you never know what she might be thinking about the toilet. Captain underpants book helped him get interested in toilet. We did teeth fillings the other day and he cried and wanted to say good bye to his teeth that were getting drilled- so hair, teeth, nails, poop- all of that he considers his body part as if it’s a limb.

@A MyAutismTeam Member i hear ya! My little one will not do number 2 on the potty either, so we make sure to give him breaks, a few days or a week and then we try again. It takes a lot of patience for sure! I wish you lots of luck! :)
