My nonverbal son as soon as he is awake will want to go out and stay out till late at night. He is forgetting about eating and drinking. He collapsed one time. How do cope with all that energy as he is walking and enjoying himself but also has shown challenging behaviour when he can't get what he needs(which is food he goes for sweets)? He enjoys school or college life immensley
Have you tried letting him snack while on the go. Just remind him to eat. Sometimes we have to do that with our son because he will just be on the move nonstop. Lots of his fave snacks and foods split into many mini meals threw out the day and lots of things to drink
Also on the food my son sometimes just won't eat but will eat whilst were in the car so I always have snacks to hand that I know he will eat with us. My eldest struggles with food alot he also has ASD used to go days with out food. If he will eat sweets let him eat them it's better than nothing isn't it. I think I saw you were in the UK too ? If so I know there is something called fortisip which is a drink which is a meal replacement the consistency is the same as a milkshake if he likes milkshake you could try that maybe x
These are good answers! Maybe you can provide gift cards to places that offer more healthy alternatives…like Subway or Blimpie are they still in business 😊 …even Wendy’s or other “fast food” restaurants. At least they’re “food,” & maybe using the drive thru will be encouraging. 👍🏽
@A MyAutismTeam Member, Trail Mix. It has some sweets and it has soft Nuts and Berries.
My 28 year old son STAYS on the go! He had trouble passing the written drivers test (put too much pressure on himself,) but when I reminded him of the FREEDOM he’d get from having his license…he passed BOTH tests…& hasn’t looked back 😊
He says listening to his music & driving relaxes him.
I GUESS he eats 😂
