Hey, everyone. I have a potty-training question. First to say, I know our kiddos tend to hit milestones later than their peers, and that all small victories are to be celebrated... that said, I'm at a long, hard standstill with my daughter. She is 5 and mastered peeing in the potty at early 4. But she will NOT poop in the toilet, and we know exactly why (she has told us many times). She will put on a pull-up, sit on the toilet, poop in the pull-up, and ask me to dump the poop in the toilet and… read more
The more info you can give her around bacteria and poop, and how to manage it / clean it, the better. She’s craving real information and I agree with you, she won’t budge until she understands it better.
That seems a little OCD, but maybe you can give her some information on the toilet water and how to clean most of it off, and how the rest of it will come off in the shower. And as long as she washes her hands she will be ok because the big problem is when you touch that and put your hands in your mouth. I had to do a lot of research on sewage system to get my kid to poop in the toilet and reassure him he wasn’t losing a body part that he needed and then reassuring him where it was going. He also loved this teen titan video- your kid might be horrified at first but also might eventually find it funny. We did a chart and bribery- so in her case, she would get sticker and dollar store prize for pooping in pullup and dumping in toilet, but would get a trip to Disneyland or some toy she really really wants if she poops without a pull-up in the toilet five times. It’s a big deal for her so make the reward big. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nWWY0gPcXwQ
More of the same, really.
How are you doing today
She will get there in her time and what works for her! I'm so happy at her success with #1's 😊
