What Is Your Child’s Preferred Toothpaste?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 3year old boy hates getting his teeth brushed. I’m trying to figure out what toothpastes he might like best

It’s probably a combination of the toothbrush & toothpaste. It’s very common for our ASD kids to have sensory aversions to toothbrushing. I’ve learned over the years that the smallest toothbrush head with soft bristles & a very mild fruity flavored gel works best. My son is 10 now & now prefers an electric toothbrush. We use Orajel kids brand, natural fruity flavor, it’s fluoride free so it’s safe to swallow. Hope this helps.

As an SLP and consultant, I've known many kids who could not tolerate a manual toothbrush, especially if someone else was attempting to do the brushing, but have had much more success with electric toothbrushes. And yes, sometimes the flavor of the toothpaste also makes a huge difference.

I saw this but didn’t know whether to get it. I will give it a go ☺️ Thank you.

With my 4yr old I use very little, as in almost no toothpaste, because the taste overwhelms him otherwise. Also have you tried the sensory toothbrush on Amazon. My son loves his.
