Phoning Care Home Twice
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Is it abit too much and I am only phoning to see if he has eaten - he is not eating properly - all the time fruits and no carbohydates(rice/bread/potatoes), protein(meat) or vegetables

Am I being unreasonable - as they don't take him to doctor when he gets like this which is often

You are just a concerned parent, calling isn’t unreasonable at all. He does need protein & complex carbs to function to the best of his ability. Fruits are mainly simple carbs. which the body breaks down to sugar & can contribute to diabetes later in life. He needs a daily multivitamin since fruit can’t supply him with everything the body needs. Even a multivitamin can’t provide him the protein he needs. There are a variety of protein supplements (just make sure it provides complete protein), that can be bought & mixed into milk & or juice. You might want to look into this online & order a variety of samples for him to try.

I actually look at this issue little differently firstly why is he only eating fruits mainly for two reasons he has less patience to sit and eat so fruits especially if they are cut then it’s quick secondly it also is a chewing issue which is very common problem in lot of individuals with autism carbs protein etc you need to chew whereas they prefer to swallow so these are the two main reasons as some one else suggest making a puree of the carbs and proteins and then giving him is the way to go you could add fruits and blend it and give like a milkshake i feel this strategy might work

They may not receive that many calls from family members and it might make them feel good that you call and care a lot
