@A MyAutismTeam Member: agreed! I actually just read about a study that was done on umbilical cord blood, and, just as I suspected, there was no evidence that it affected any of the traits. I find it interesting that people want to think that such things are capable of rewiring someone's brain :) Autism is an operating system. While one can learn to overcome obstacles and work WITH their traits, ain't no changin' one's wiring šŸ˜Š

I heard of promising research on nitric oxide levels in the brain and how too much of it can cause neurodegenerative conditions like autism, Alzheimerā€™s and ALS. They did lab tests on those low-functioning ASD and they had too much NO which correlated with mouse models that also had too much and exhibited ASD-like behavior. NO is important to cell and overall health and high performance athletes especially want more of it. But too much of anything can be harmful.

Whatever happened with the gastrointestinal enzyme research they were doing where they discovered some with ASD were missing a critical enzyme needed for brain function?

Edited to read ā€œnitric oxideā€

I researched this and stem cell therapy has not been proven to help Autistics. The cost alone is also a red flag & quacks are making lots of money preying on desperate parents. It has been proven effective & does help those with blood diseases such as leukemia.

Yes, that make sense! When you donā€™t know much about autism until it impacts you directly, you can tend to read and believe what professionals might say or offer for helpā€¦thatā€™s why it was so important to me to connect with others that have experience with autism..thank you for your response

You are correctā€¦the more I read about it, just definitely looks like a way to make money and give false hope..I agree, my granddaughter is the love of our lives no matter what..it has just been so hard to see her losing skills and abilities what to us seems so quickly
