Autistic 5YO In Kindergarten
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My son started kindergarten last week and he has a paraprofessional. It's been a rough start, my son is pulling things of shelves, makes noises and even kicked some people in the classroom. He's not violent with us, so this has to be related to being overwhelmed

Ask your school/school district, if they can send a teacher to come home for in-home classes

No, they don't allow parents in the school for safety reasons. That's why he has a paraprofessional with him the entire day but he doesn't know how to handle him...

Awe, oh no, sounds like his safe spot for learning is at home. Have you checked his insurance to see is they cover in home learning? I know here in Oklahoma they can get it approved for autistic children. I am so not sure about florida.

Also, this may even be hard to do as well but are you able to sit with him in his class to help him understand that he is safe?
