What Are Best Medication Options Good For 3 Year Old Diagnosed With Autism?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Am looking for best and safe medication options for my 3 year old daughter diagnosed with autism? When she was diagnosed with autism , her developmental doctor dint suggestion any medicine. But I read from many parents that medications helps a lot with ASD even though not a complete cure for ASD. Please suggest good medication options?

I’m not saying she won’t be diagnosed with ADHD when she gets older, but right now she is only 3. What can seem like hyperactivity is usually just little ones being little ones. My 5 year old might have ADHD also, but it’s too soon to tell for sure. Attention span can increase over time and be helped along with techniques. The most common one is slowly increasing the amount of time spent on one activity. My son also had a tough time with that. Just get an estimate of time when she plays with something she enjoys (or an activity). Then over time, try getting her to stay with it just one extra minute. If she’s really immersed and encouraged, she might not notice the extra minute.

I’ ve read some parents tried medications and it worked out for them. Hyper activity and very less attention span is the biggest concerns .

There’s definitely no cure for autism, and you don’t grow out of it, but all you can do is medicate severe symptoms. At 3 years old, there’s really no medication she could take. She’s still too little. Even if you want to try something like a vitamin, you should always talk to a doctor first so they could tell you how much she could have. Little bodies have little organs, which is why lead is much more poisonous to little ones. Their bodies don’t break it down nearly as fast adults do. It’s the same with vitamins and medications. Is she having any severe symptoms? There may be therapies or things you could try to alleviate any disruptive behavior.
