Hi Mrs. Bennett we've wanted to do the same for my granddaughter who is severely autistic and non-verbal she's 10. I feel like there's not enough funding for Autisim to have more schools and teacher's we has families for our loved ones need help in getting more support.

This is the mystery.
Depending on where you are some states, have a really good special day and autism programs in the public school system. He’ll require you getting an IEP and learning a lot about this process because it’s complicated. I’d also suggest getting an advocate to help you navigate it.
Some school systems are not as good and there are schools for special needs so you’ll have to find them and investigate.

If your son has behavioral issues, which is anything that prevents him from being able to focus and do his work to obtain the education, he’s supposed to get then go through the process to get what it could be called a BII or paraprofessional or shadow.
Someone just to help just him there’s all sorts of restrictions and parameters on it but in a public school it’s helpful to know there’s a person just assigned it to your child it’ll make you feel a lot better about their safety
Private schools are going to be expensive the only way to get a school district to pay for it is if your child cannot get the fair inappropriate education all the other kids are getting in the school setting and you’ll have to prove that and that’s a process
The best thing you can do is try to network with other autistic parents in your area and ask others what they’re doing because it is really hard to find out information. I am still struggling and my son’s 13 and we’re still not satisfied that he is actually getting educated.
There are a lot of sources of information out there Wrightslaw has all sorts of information and seminars to help you navigate the world of special education. And if you find a good teacher stick with them if you can. because the school doesn’t really matter, the program doesn’t really matter …a teacher that actually cares is the holy Grail
