My son was very close to potty trained from age 6-8 but regressed after some medical issues and lost the skills. 2 years ago he would sit on the toilet with the lid closed. In our current apartment, he refuses to get near the toilet and definitely not sit on it. Has anyone had any luck potty training with an older child who has been in pull ups a long time?
All I know is that a 'Distraction' (one that preferably makes them laugh) is a great motivator.
So have a Tech Device or even a simple toy as a distraction while they are in there.
That’s just plain insensitive of her to say that to you. People that aren’t raising an Autistic child & say such completely tactless things should be required to take a sensitivity training course before being allowed to work in a school with our kids. Try not to let her get to you, she has no business giving you her opinion unless you ask for it.
Never give up hope @A MyAutismTeam Member, I understand your concern & struggle, we are warrior moms who keep on trying regardless of others thoughtless comments.
Hi @A MyAutismTeam Member,
We are in the exact same position. Our son is 13, nonverbal. He has no interest in using the toilet. He too is wearing adult diapers all day and night. We have tried so many methods. Lining his toilet seat with pull ups, dropping fruit loop targets in the toilet, giving him his tablet while playing potty videos while he’s in there, and even buying little gadgets that you insert into the outer lining of his pull up that plays music when it gets wet. The sound is supposed to associate that music with the toilet. Nothing has worked. We continue to try any thing we hear that has worked for others. Best of luck to you and your son. If he’s anything like our son, maybe the “want to do it phase “ will come back around.
@A MyAutismTeam Member thanks im going to need it lol :)
I will be working on public potty training this summer, ill let u know if i figure out any tips 💙
