Is It Common For Kids With Autism To Have Little Self Motivation?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I see other kids want a drivers license, hunting license, buying things related to their hobbies etc and taking steps to do it. Mine says she wants to drive but won't open the book, wants her HS diploma but won't do the work etc. I am very goal oriented so this is very hard to wrap my mind around.

Yes. And the “breaking things down” into just the first step, and doing that, then talking about the 2nd step and doing that, and so on, is great advice.

I think a lot of times people with autism do better at reaching large goals if they are broken down into smaller more manageable goals. At least that's what I have been told in therapy.
