When my daughter was going into grade one, the first four months were spent weaning her from therapy and it was a challenge to go from centre to school.
That be being said, it was 8 years ago and depending where you live, some school boards realize the importance of ABA and have dedicated spaces in the school for therapy to take place so there are less transitions for the child. You would also need a provider that is remote and not just centre based.
If you can make it happen, I would try. It’s not for an extended period of time and worth it if ABA works for your child.
I forgot to mention that the local elementary school district called it CAP (Comprehensive Autism Program), not ABA. He used to cry if he wasn’t in the mood for it. This was when he was four years old. He told one of the BT’s to “go home” or “no! all done!” But eventually he looked forward to it and the BT’s were also helpful with our potty training schedule. He stopped ABA when he was 6 years old, first grader.
Yes, my son’s ABA was school based starting at 3 years old. It was after school in my home.
Several years ago....It was a lot to do....
