Fortunately we got a new Director of special services towards the end of his first year of middle school, and I was adamant about meeting with her on her first day on the job! We developed a great relationship, and she made sure that his second year in middle school and four years in high school met our expectations!
She even created an alternative foreign language class for “special needs” students that satisfied the requirement as a foreign language for college admission!
Working with the right people throughout the educational process is very important. Make sure you are HEARD!!!
Dennis’s’s first year of middle school was a nightmare! He transitioned from a charter school to our public middle school. The other students and teachers there weren’t great! I still have nightmares about some of his experiences.
Educationally, I’m sure you could homeschool her just fine. But socialization is important too. If you do that, I suggest you try to find some programs or interactions with other children, maybe former classmates, where she can continue to interact with others, her age.
Please keep us posted 😘
@A MyAutismTeam Member oh that's great thank you very much kind lady. Ash will be starting 3rd grade so middle isn't until 6th here. So I gots lots time to adjust n figure it out :) ash the same as Lola can't do schoolwork more than couple mins at a time. In special Ed they work with her couple mins than ash gets like a 15-20 min break m than they work couple mins, break, work, break. Like that all day. They r great team. I do love the flexibility tho with homeschooling n knowing she won't be bullied etc lots perks. Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it. 🥰
Thank u @A MyAutismTeam Member and I'm so sorry to hear that about Dennis first yr middle school.
