Homeschooling and a daily routine schedule
My brother is now 21 years old, me and my mother raised him together and I'd say the most helpful thing would be, us treating him like the rest of his siblings. Too much special treatment can definitely hinder their growth as an adolescent.. especially as a growing adult. Allowing them to figure out who they are without too much coddling gives them a sense of independence, which is extremely important.
Allowing my child to be in a self contained classroom with kids like them and allowing them to have more one on one care or time
MeRT therapy and OT. Using the Son-Rise online program to develop interactivity and later Chiropractic medicine treatment, a supportive afterschool program and independent studies when we got a bad teacher in public schools. Also monitoring diet and boosting with an antioxidant rich diet and a vitamin supplement with Methylated Folate and fiber. We also used probiotics and lots of low sugar yogurt.
Finally going to play areas when it’s not too crowded to boost gross motor skills helped a lot as did Sleepology to help her sleep through the night. Melatonin only helped for a while but had side effects like disrupting the endocrine cycle.
My husband, son and I participated in the son rise program. We attended classes in MA as parents, then we attended the intensive program with our son. We learned how to really connect with him through play acting and learned ways to extend his attention span. The experience helped us become a “whole” family. My son is still autistic and communication is his biggest challenge, but he is happy and has no behavioral issues. Because of our connection, he comes to me to talk, draw, write, sing and just goof around. I thank the program for making us understand how important it was and still is to create and maintain our connection. I let my son know that I am genuinely interested in what he has to say. I believe Son Rise now has virtual classes, so that is a more affordable option.
