Shes 4 years old, mostly non verbal and won't learn to walk... all she does is smack and kick and hit and pinch us all day long... no doesn't work, time out nope, nothing. Tried literally everything. Most times she thinks its funny. How do I make this stop. Exhausted. ABA school just dropped her too... no notice. So tired and sore... can't hold her, play, do anything. All day long non stop abuse.
Also sometimes underlying stomach or dental issues can cause aggression. Have you tried a special needs dentist or pediatric gi? My son had a lot of issues around 8, and when we finally got to the root of it, the real issue is he was frequently constipated and could not cope in a sensory way and I needed to manage the constipation with diet and miralax. Cavities and dental accesses can cause big behaviors. A mood stabilizer really helped him as well when he got a little older.
We had one such as yours. We were at our wits ends, too. We got help through ATTENTION and something called LSS short time home where the kids go a few days a week, follow the house rules and schedules and this gives parents a chance to calm their nerves. It was through Easter Seals Respite care in the USA. We had it 9 years. Saved our marriage. We also found meds called guanfecin (really old BP med) that took all the rage away. He was still a cheeky monkey, but it was manageable. He masked outside of home, at school, etc. he graduated high school still thinking he had it all under control. Real world has set him back to burn out 3 years in a row over simple summer jobs. So we are back with LSS again, going through the process for home help and guide to go out with him. From what we have learned and experienced I feel safe in saying there are some kids who have zero regard for what parents say or require. It’s the other significant people who help them make better choices and support the whole family. Children’s hospitals have programs to assess the kiddos and treatment and guidance for the parents. If you are near one, call for information on the programs they have. Hang in there, tired momma.
When my nonverbal son had challenging behaviour we got specialised Autism school and made the world of difference. They concentrated on communication through pictures or picture exchange communication system. And wow my child understood for the first time what we were asking of him and began responding and enjoying school and behaving
FBA, OT, SPT, ABA, AAC, PECA, Signing, been doing and trying all of this. Why im just to the point of I don't even know anymore.
Sensory seeking, yes I know this... ive tried fidget toys and stress balls and objects and weight blankets... she just throws them at me or elsewhere.
Tried NO, time out, correcting, reward system, ignoring...
Looking for patterns or triggers or what happens before the crazy... no patterns.
Ever her doctor doesn't understand it.
Communication... she know how to communicate when she wants or needs something. But anything other then that its. No.
Remind you she doesn't walk so imagine her on top of you just aggressively awful 90% of the time.
We just keep getting pushed from one person or place or specialist or doctor to the next. Over and over.
Im beyond exhausted at this point. Can't function like this anymore.
Shes also on meds as well. Everyone keeps saying the same things over and over and over again. Nothing new...
Me asking is because ive already tried and done all of it, im killing myself trying to find a way for her and us.
Has to be something else.
That age is really hard. I wish I had some answers. My son is nonverbal and 15. There will be better years. Some kids like the sensory sound of slapping and some kids like the negative reaction. A lot of therapists suggest you react very neutrally but maintain safety. Supposedly the neutral reaction will decrease the attention seeking behavior over time likes weeks and months.
