My 11 year old, high functioning son is starting to get pubic hair & go through puberty. Any tips on having "the talk" with him? & is it true that some autistic individuals have a higher sex drive in adolescence?
We are going through the same thing! My son will be 12 in September. I'm currently looking for some type of class/seminar that I can go to and get some ideas on how to help my son go through… read more
Does anyone have difficulty letting their little one cut their fingernails?
My son refuses to let me, and they get pretty dirty. They end up ripping when they get too long, and the only way I can cut them is to have someone restrain him (which I hate doing, and breaks my heart).
Suggestions as to what I can do? Thanks!
For years and years I had to cut my daughter's nails when she was asleep and even then she had to be in a very deep sleep or she would wake up and want me to stop. Finally at 10 years old she allows… read more

Hi. I was researching how to incorporate use of essential oils, and I stumbled onto the study using "Environmental Enrichment" for kids with autism. I believe that this is the basis for Mendability (a program for which you pay a certain amount of money a month to have help from OT's in carrying out a sort of sensorimotor stimulation program adapted for your kid). Makes some intuitive sense to me. I found one old question about using Mendability, and wanted to see if anyone else has used it.

Does anyone know about Pitt-Hopkins-Like 2 Syndrome and where we can get more information about it? Our 4 1/2 year old granddaughter has had genetic testing and this was the diagnosis they gave. We would like to talk to more families who know and have experience with this syndrome.
Thank you. Sounds like a good idea. We have gone in and Liked their FB page. Funny how complicated some things seem that should be so simple.
Hi! I know there are some conversations on here regarding essential oils, but curious of any recent stories and/or progress associated with oils? Thanks!
I have a son in the 7th grade with Autism. The teacher called me last week to ask me if I would consider keeping my son in middle school due to his maturity level, that it would benefit him academically before he goes to high school. I told her that I would think about it and get back with her. Me and his dad discussed it and he thinks it maybe a good idea and I don't have a problem with it but I wanted some suggestions.
Ah ok. Yeah, I wasn't sure where he was at verbal wise. Sounds like it'd be a win-win to go ahead and stay in middle school.
It is for kids with autism and/or other cognitive delays to help transition them from high school to either more school or the work world.
No, but wow it sounds awesome!!
