My 6 yr old grandson has started having temper tantrums every time he is told, No, that he can't have what he wants. He is nonverbal and actually gets so angry that he tries to squeeze your arm or whatever part of your body is accessable and on occasion has even bitten. All this going on, while yelling at the top of his lungs. Telling him to go sit in his chair, does nothing but make him angrier and if you try to take him to sit down, he just stiffens his whole body and stays in the spot or… read more
SOunds so familiar. My son is tantruming so bad now. His tantrums seem to stem off of his OCD and sensory issues as well as just behavioral. Its so hard to know how to minimize this since its… read more
Any recommendations for sports involvement for a 4 year old with ASD? My son loves to be active and play outside, and he seems to have some natural ability in his coordination. I would love to give him an opportunity to try a team sport. I'm not sure he's ready yet, but are there any specific sports that have worked well for your child with ASD?
Addition. ATA had leaderships programs that help them in their social interaction which applies in our everyday life.
Our son has a very limited diet that consists mostly of junk food. We're looking for a feeding specialist who can help him increase his food choices.

His behaviorist said that his OT is the only staff in the school who can implement his sensory diet. She is only twice a week in the school. Can his OT trained his especial ed teacher and his one on one aide/aides in his classroom? My son loses focus a lot. What can I do to help him. And what are you guys thoughts on giving your kid medication too help them focus and listen
I usually would let my son look at me first, eye contact is important and then use a calm voice, making sure he can hear me and then give him a chance to respond being patient for his response.
I just started using essential oils on my son and noticed a big difference in his attitude and the way he is able to focus now....I was wondering if anybody else has used them
We use essential oils with my son and they are awesome
Just wanted to know if anyone has used a weighted blanket for their child. I think Makayla would really benefit from one. They are expensive, but i may ask my mom and dad if they would go in on one with me.
It's nice to get different side to help our kids..... Great job everyone😊
When confronted with the least problem he gets defensive and some times out of control.I turn to comforting him until he is past the anger. The comfort comes when he has really gotten out of control.
So, what I have learned is to 1.) never raise my voice...as I go up, he goes up. 2.) while he is stressing I remind him that I love him 3.) if you are punishing him, ask him what should be done...I… read more
