Has Anyone Had Issues With Stealing By Your ASD Child? What Did You Do To Stop This Behavior?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

We have a 10 year old son with ASD. He steals whatever he wants with no remorse. He has been doing this for years. He steals food, candy, money, toys from stores. I have to do a pocket check if I take him shopping with me. If you ask him if stealing is wrong, he says yes. Yet the behavior goes on. What should we do?

A MyAutismTeam Member

I’m in the same boat. My daughter is 12 and sneaks food regularly. We have to lock things up. So far she’s only tried to steal from the school once, but I’m worried she’ll be stealing from stores soon… read more

Is ABA Helpful For High Functioning ASD Kids?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

For those with High-functioning kids, have you found ABA therapy to be helpful? Or not? and why?

My son's teacher and school team were discouraging me from pursuing ABA therapy for my son because he is considered "high-functioning" I was under the impression that ABA can be helpful for all degrees of learning and development.

Hoping to draw some insight from some of you...

Is It ASD Or ADHD?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Who's diagnosis do you go with when all of your own research points to ASD and the psychiatrist says ASD and depression but the highly regarded children's hospital says ADHD and anxiety? This presents a problem between my husband and others in the family who aren't accepting of the ASD diagnosis.

i feel adhd and anxiety are parts of asd
tell the family that the sooner they accept and learn about it the more helpful they will be with child

How Many Parents Have Their Child On A Holistic Protocal (chelation, Supplementation, Etc)? How Much Progress Has Your Child Made?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm concerned since I've moved to Texas at the high number of holistic doctors here that have jumped on the Kreb Cycle (digestive cylcle)DNA, chelated therapy for removal of "heavy metals", and high supplementation bandwagon! Parents need to know that some of these "doctors" are claiming to be certified specialist when they are not. ALL of these protocals have never been approved (and have been discounted by the American Pediatrics Association) or studied by a medical campus that isn't a… read more

Do Your Children Have Friends Who Are On The Spectrum ?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

This is a feel good question, I want to give hope to those who worry their child won't have friends. my son has a few friends who are also on the spectrum . They frequently get together at my house .They are all quirky in their own way , and yet the same . They don't have normal teenage converstaions, but they do have spirited converstaions about things that matter. They argue with each other and get angry and frusrated and the next day can't wait to do it all again. Society doesn't have to… read more

What Do The Acronyms Stand For?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I first logged onto the site, everybody was speaking in code. I couldn't understand what they were talking about. Try as I might, I couldn't find anything on the site or the Q+A like a glossary. So, I decided to start one. I'll begin with some of the terms/acronyms I commonly use. Feel free to add the terms/acronyms that you commonly use!

Take Into Consideration:
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Autism has been around since the 30's when it was 1st discovered, but was not widely known until the Mid to late 80's, and it was still a Mystery, and it was not until the 90's when it was being openly addressed
Now
That means there are Adults with ASD all around us, in important positions, even positions that deal with our ASD Children and Young Adults.
Albert Einstein is said to have had Autism. Keep that in mind.
Now, I am not saying there is anything wrong with ASD individuals in… read more
