I am a single mom to a 5 year old boy with Autism. He just recently became totally potty trained but he still requires assistance when using the restroom. However, he exceeds the age maximum to allow him in most female public restrooms and locker rooms and looks like he is a typical 7 or 8 years old due to his size. Just when I thought I would be relieved when he became potty trained, now I have anxiety around his needing to use a public restroom because I cannot assist him. Have any other… read more
My answer to this is to find the UNISEX bathrooms when your out -(FAMILY BATHROOM) where the doors lock and try and get her used to that.
My cute son will hold his spit in his mouth until he throws up or is told to spit somewhere. He will hold it on the school bus, in the car up to 80 miles without swallowing. This is all new behavior for us. Any tips or advice is appreciated.
find out if he's vitamin d deficient. my son did that for hours but 10 days of high amounts of vit d supplements reduced the behaviour substantially.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to tell my 11 1/2 yr. old son about his diagnosis... And if I decide to tell him; what to say that is age appropriate. His therapist doesn't see the need unless he asks. I've mentally made a list of the possible pros and cons... Telling him would explain some things for him, but I don't want to run the risk of him regressing in some way or using this information as an excuse to not be the best he can be. A little background on my son: He knows he's… read more
I honestly wish I had known when I was a kid. I knew I was different. Life was HARD. I wasn't diagnosed until age 30. If I had been diagnosed as a kid, if it had been explained as a positive thing… read more
My daughter who has ASD is 2 and A half, she is a very big 2 and a half year old. Not really fat just tall and solid but none the less out growing a size six diaper (they are barely strapping) so I guess I have several questions here..... how old were some of your children on the spectrum when they potty trained? What were some of their challenges and things you found that worked well for them? And if potty training isn’t an option has anyone had to order diapers bigger than a 6 and where is the… read more
Our son was potty trained during the day, but not at night. He had accidents. He was wearing pull-ups overnight until he was 12 before he no longer needed them. They are all different. It is very… read more
I have 4 years old under the spectrum. Since he was two years old he is humping pillows whenever the opportunity comes a home. He does not do such thing at daycare, but whenever he comes home from daycare, he eats and then start humping pillow on the bed. I saw he has erection. Is this normal?. Usually he does that for over 30 minutes. I do really need to know if anybody saw something like this in the past.
5 yo son has been doing this since he was literally crawling. Blankets and cushions. If I take the stuff away he will just find something else or do it to the floor. Help 😠anyone managed to stop it?
Not really a 'Question', just Information: I have on Monday reduced Stephen's 'Melatonin' to 1.5mgs. His Age and Weight according to the Dosage Recommendation says that He is supposed to be taking 5mgs every night. I have noticed His agitation on a daily basis and then reduced it to 3mgs, which helped a lot for His overall attitude, but He still showed agitation but not as pronounced, so I further reduced His dosage to the 1.5mgs and Low and Behold; He's been getting really great reports from… read more

Does it make sense to mix ABA with ST and OT, instead of just doing ABA
My 21 month old son was just diagnosed as being on the spectrum last week. He had already been scheduled to receive speech therapy, occupational therapy, and special instruction due to his language delays and sensory issues. Now that he has an autism diagnosis I'm being told he should get 4 hours of ABA a day; 2 at a center and 2 at home, and that will replace all the other therapies. I still don't even fully believe… read more
