Good Schools In Irvine, California?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hello, we've heard great things about the school districts in Irvine. My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with moderate ASD. She's been in a special day class in San Leandro, CA and has been in every type of service since she was initially diagnosed (private OT, ABA, Speech and music therapy). The school has offered the basics, and not even OT! After sending letters she will finally have an assessment. She is transitioning to Kinder. At this point we are willing to move wherever services are… read more

Help Me Deal With Wandering
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

my 11 yo with HFA wanders/escapes despite locks and alarms. She "knows" the safety rules about asking permission to be outside in our fenced yard only (with her swings)but frequently "forgets". Today she was missing for two hours, I thought she was in her room, when we found she wasn't , we began calling outside and looking for her. I was on the verge of calling 911. Probably should have... We drove around, had neighbors looking etc... Finally found her in a creek in a woods in a… read more

Food Triggers
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

My 16 yo is HFA and is on Zoloft mainly for anxiety. When it comes to eating, he does like meats and salads. But he is funny about textures and smells and this seems to affect his diet. Before starting Zoloft he seemed to have a better appetite. Can anyone explain why? Also, besides dyes, what other foods can trigger negative behavior and what is in them that’s causing it?

My child lost her appetite on Zoloft. She recently moved in with her dad. They are telling me she has to see a psychiatrist to get Zoloft, even tho the dr the have for her already prescribed it. Is… read more

Denying IEE Because Specialist Won't Send Director Of Spec Ed Credentials?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have requested an IEE and the district never gave me info regarding criteria or their "approved" evaluators so I found my own and scheduled an appointment since the end of the year is fast approaching. The district is now saying they refuse to pay for it because the doctor will not send his credentials over and said that he has never been asked that by a district in the 15 years he has been doing educational evaluations. Can the district refuse to pay based on that?

Sorry I meant approve it or file for due process based on IDEA

A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, i am trying to potty train my 3 year old daughter who is having ASD with speech delay , whole day she is without diaper and i am taking her to restroom 4 -5 times a day where she is doing all the steps and coming out . But she is not doing her job in the potty. She is waiting for me to put her diaper and only then she is relieving herself.
