Hi Everyone
My son is aging out of Early Intervention, so we went to see our town's special needs preschool today. I found the inclusive room to be chaotic and unorganized, and the self-contained room seemed too restrictive and strict for my son's needs. Because they can technically "meet our needs," I am not sure what I can do in this situation - and if there is anything to do. My son is mild on the spectrum, and his developmental pediatrician and EI therapists and eval agree that he is… read more
I know in Massachusetts if the school says they can "meet your needs" then you don't have much of a choice, but you can volunteer to be sure they do "meet his needs". Be visible and vocal. The… read more
I'm in the process of setting one up with a few other parents. We will be an official ptsa that will be at the district level, so 1 special needs ptsa for all the schools in our district. We'll gave… read more
We currently live in the northern suburbs and are looking to have our 3.5 year old son evaluated. We are most concenred with obtaining a specific treatment plan which outlines the recommended hours and types of treatment suggested.
You are welcome. It sounded like you are close. They are not all table time. I am curious to hear what you think.
The school team did a thorough evaluation based on several months of observation and data. I agree with their autism conclusion based on my own observations and research. There are very few child neuropsychologists in my area and the waiting lists are quite long. My daughter does not have any behavioral issues and I do not think a medical diagnosis will entitle her to… read more
I agree with Janeen. Services are available for her with a medical diagnosis.

When my son does not get his way he will sometimes scream and cry. Or just be very repetitive and keep asking me for what he wants. Usually this has to do with Xbox, Ipad, or watching cartoons. He is obsessed with electronics. He would rather play video games all day than pick up a toy. I do not like this and want him to play with his toys more like he used to before we got the Ipad, etc. I set a timer for the video game and when it goes off he starts screaming and crying. And if he asks to play… read more
I agree with what jhburner said (was about to type something similar) but wanted to add what we too use the timer. If your child is screaming and crying with the timer and has a language issue, try… read more
