Can I post SC resources and conferences that I think will help families?
Yea I work for a non profit that works with family connection and we have a conference coming up in Columbia. We have a lot of classes that can help families a lot.

My 10 yr old is in 4th grade. Middle School starts in 5th grade here. We are still having trouble getting him on track in school this year. I have our 4th IEP meeting of THIS school year next Thursday. I am mainly focused on helping him through the rest of this year, but is it too soon to start discussing the next transition? As of now J has to go to his "safe place" every day to avoid specials (gym, music etc.) He is still refusing to attend Resource (EC). Somehow without completing all… read more

I wish there was a poll option. So I was reading this http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC363...
And I don't understand if it's 80% chance of having an ASD or 1% chance. And maybe I've already asked this as I'm senile already.
Did you have any inflammation while pregnant?
I am thinking chronic or disease but vaccines can also cause inflammation (yahyah it's just what they are designed to do), or viruses, or bacterias.. etc.
I have IC, hashimoto's disease and chronic pain/fatigue… read more

I wanted to get everyone's opinion on something. I write a blog on autism and have been told many times I should write a book about my families story. I did reach out to a publisher and they suggested the same thing. Have any of you written a book before, or do you even think I should do it based on my blog posts. I am on Wordpress under my same screen name here if you want to check it out.

Thanks for the info, I had not actually looked into the numbers. My family is not anything special in terms of autistic families so there is no hook there.

My youngest son has regressive autism and he has always put things in his mouth & yes despite best efforts he has eaten non-food items, but this tops anything he's done before. I woke up at 3:00 am, I was going to the kitchen when I noticed the fish bowl was empty. By empty I mean no water & no beta. I looked everywhere for the fish. I was putting away clothes in my oldest son's room and found pieces parts of the fish. My youngest son is now telling me he ate it. I'm obviously very… read more

My 3 year old son with autism resorts to screaming when he's upset because he didn't get his way, he didn't agree with the transition, he's tired or overstimulated, etc. it's really bad at church! I don't know if he's associated church with the screaming or if it's because there are about 200 people in one room with interaction, lights, music, etc. He's very verbal, so we try to teach him to "use his words" but in the middle of a screaming episode, that's obviously not effective. I've… read more

This was suggested for our 5 year old. He struggles the most with hyper activity and lack of focus. He can focus when not over stimulated and very interested, but most of our interactions and his learning including language is done in short spurts. we were advised to try to treat it naturally first. School and therapy want to treat it behaviorally.
Thank you so much for checking!
