Our son is 2 1/2 and recently diagnosed. We're fortunate in that he does not present with many challenges at this point. He has some speech delay which is showing improvement and he has difficulty with joint attention/responding to his name. He occasionally runs back and forth from the family room to front door but can be redirected. Beyond that, he does not appear to have sensory issues, makes great eye contact, is incredibly loving and seemingly aware of our feelings, is not rigid with… read more
As my DD has gotten older, the gap between her and same-age neurotypical peers has become more obvious. She is actually making improvement in terms of her percentiles but the difference between where… read more
I need any and all suggestions. I've narrowed the cause of the behavior down to two things, 1. lack of impulse control and 2. can't handle No or not getting what he wants. In any situation that something he wants is denied he hits, chokes, pokes (usually in the eyes). All aggressive incidents were mild in the fact that he pulled his punches to insure no one was hurt. He is not out of control in these incidents but very aware and in control. We had made a lot of progress in this area (actually… read more

This article relating odds and severity of autism correlated with maternal amalgam fillings during pregnancy is interesting. http://bit.ly/1qtwsLH
Question:
How many fillings did you (mom) have while pregnant with your ASD child?
On a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being severe) how would you rate your child's autism symptoms?

Hi all,
I am the daddy of a 15 months old daughter, she is our first child and we do not have our parents around here. So it took us sometime to realize the symptoms, and get some more information about this condition. She hasn't been diagnosed yet, since I have found out about it last week. After lots of research in a week, I have found this community to ask some questions, hopping to get some answers from people experiencing the condition. This week we are going to take her to specialist and… read more

I was wondering if there was an in person support group for ASD parents in the Memphis TN area?? I know about all the fb pages and things but was looking for a group that actually meets. It would be nice to share ideas and stories and actually have someone in person to talk to.
Ask around at the Regional Center in your area. If there is none, you can start one at your home, on the internet, or at your child
School.
