The 100 mile drive has gotten to be a little much. Anyone has any ideas?
My daughter learned how to answer most questions, but I have been trying to teach her how to ask questions such as: "where are we going" or "what's this". How do you guys teach children on the spectrum how to ask questions?
i would say the question that I want her to ask, such as mine has sensory issues, so loud sounds would bother her, so I would jump in when I heard a sound that may bother her and as "what's that… read more
Thank you so much for this team. I have 12 year old son. I am a motswana living in botswana. Not much is known about this condition in my country. Our children are treated like psychiatric clients. No education is there for them especially the worse ones like my son. The only option is to be stuck at home. My question is how do i advocate for him and others. I dont even know what they should be taught.
Also, ABA was mentioned and can be an important start for some kids. I found a blog the describes my favorite ABA book. It has the theory and charts on developmental skills for recording progress… read more
My 2 year old boy has ASD and still doesn't sleep through the night. He wakes up about every two or so hours wanting something to drink. Sometimes he goes back to sleep and other times he gets really upset and cries for a whole. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you ahead of time
My son was like that when he was that age. He chewed the nipples off his bottle and his pacifier. We had to go cold turkey and take away his bottles and pacifiers. He would cry and throw a fit but… read more
My non verbal 19 year old son has 4 impacted wisdom teeth. He is having surgery in 10 days. He is having a lot of on and off again pain. Anyone else have these issues? I think the stress and anxiety of the pain and discomfort is getting to him too. He is normally so hap l y and laid back and this past week he is so agitated and aggressive!!
We had the same issue. My so had his pulled two days ago. He was obsessed with getting scissors to cut out the sutures. I asked our oral surgeon to help us keep him calm during recovery. 1. Stay ahead… read more
Dr recommended that my son start cognitive behavioral therapy to address anxiety issues around germs?
Thanks so much...I will look for this book. I figured I will have to train myself but was able to find a great play therapist that deals with anxiety.
I recently noticed the multivitamin I have been giving my kids has red dye 40. I want to give my kids a better vitamin. In my research, I found out kids with ASD need certain vitamins and minerals to feel better. I would love some input on what some of you give, and I'd also like to know why iron and copper are contraindicated.
I know its a lot but with my calculations of minerals and vitamins it is very similar in cost. It is a great vitamin. My son has made improvements. Its hard to explain these improvements overall… read more
Hello everyone...My daughter was diagnosed with autism and she is now 2 1/2 years old. She has tantrums and is self injurous. Not all the time but it does happen. Some of the behaviors are because she gets frustrated because she is non-verbal and can't really communicate well but some of them are strictly disciplinary. She kind of knows what the word no means but she doesn't understand WHY we are telling her she can't do things or needs to stop doing things and as a result has a tantrum. We were… read more

Hi, In a few months we will be taking my 2 year old, who has ASD, to a local beach for one week. Typically, he loves sand and water. Lately though, he has taken to running away and will run right into a dangerous situation (ex. Running into a pool, swings while people are swinging on them). Usually, there are two of us watching him and redirecting. He is starting to become verbal , but does not understand most commands. The beach poses more of a challenge, because it is so large. Any… read more
