Our son has an extremely hard time trying to fall asleep, he is ASD and ADD. our developmental ped suggested that we try 3mg of melatonin a hour and and half before bed time. First question where can I find a liquid version and should we start that high?

Members enthusiastically responded to a parent seeking liquid melatonin for their child with ASD and ADD, sharing numerous sources including Rite Aid, CVS, Target, health food stores, Amazon, and Swanson Vitamins, with many recommending the Natrol brand used in an Autism Speaks study. Several members offered practical strategies beyond finding the product, including crushing tablets and mixing them with yogurt or chocolate milk, starting with lower doses and gradually increasing as needed under medical supervision, and administering it 30 to 45 minutes before bedtime for best results. A recurring theme was overwhelming relief and gratitude from parents who found melatonin transformative for their households, turning stressful bedtimes into peaceful routines and helping their children wake rested and ready for the day without the grogginess of other sleep aids.

For my 3 year old that is ASD I just get the regular melatonin and put it in yogurt for him. He doesn't mind it at all.

We found the liquid online, flavored. It never really seemed to help my son. We now use a sleepytime tea that helps. It is made with a combination of chamomile, catnip and valerian. We mix it with apple juice when brewing and ice it for him to drink before bed.

I got my liquid melatonin at Target Pharmacy behind the counter. It is manufactured by Natrol. My 9 year old son with Asperger's takes 5mg (1 tsp.) 30 minutes for bedtime. It works great!

JenniferB: Thank you for the information my 12 year old gets up very, very early in the morning 4:00 to be exact and will not go back to sleep until around 9 or 10 that night. I will definitely try to find this at Walmart and try it.

Well tonight I am going to be
the kind of woman
I'd want my daughter to be
I'm gonna love myself
more than anyone else
Believe in me
Even if you can't see
A stronger woman in me
