Has Anyone Had Their Child On GFCF Diet And Taken Them Off? Any Words Of Advice On Doing This?
A MyAutismTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have had my son on a GFCF diet since he was 3.5. He is now 9 with no "gut" issues, and doing relatively well. He is also on medication. I am wondering if anyone went OFF the diet and how they did? I'd hate to think this is his lifetime eating plan.

We followed the GFCF for a few years and found it did not make a difference. We ave been off the diet for 5 years with no problems.

We were GFCF and added C back slowly - we could see a huge affect there so we went CF again after about a month we added back a little G and didn't notice much change. SO we have chosen to allow a limited amount of G back into his diet. We only used the GFCF diet for behavioral issues and haven't noticed a change.

We did GF diet for about 6 months before we noticed great improvement. As far as I know, the GF diet should be tried for at least 6 months. In my opinion, many parents give up too soon.

I tried the GFCF diet didnt see a big change in my sons digestive system. I tried everything soymilk, almondmilk, miralax, etc. My son was always constipated no matter what, and because of his aspergers and extremely picky food patterns he never got enough fiber in his diet. I finally bought fiber gummies and they were wonderful I give him 1 a day or 1 every other day. He has even started eating more now that his digestive system isnt so messed up. His mood is better when his stomach isnt hurting as well.
