hi I'm from St. Louis, Mo...I have yet to find day care centers in the area that are good with special needs children, I know a few that claim they are but not. You can get respite services where someone comes to your home or takes your daughter out and gives you a few hours break. Or respite services that does drop off weekends services but I'm unsure of the age ranges so I don't know if your child would be able to do that one...my son loves it though.

Have you called your county health department? They often have referrals to places that offer respite care either by you dropping your child off or sending someone to your home while you leave and run errands or just have your own quiet time. In Michigan there is a program called Childrens Waiver that is state funded and does this very thing. Maybe your state would have something similar. These employees are trained, compassionate and usually take a special interest in the individuals they serve. Often are college students working on the degrees in social work or teaching special educe, emotionally impaired or similar populations.

We have the same thing here where someone comes to the house to helpout with daily activities for children. We are still in the process of getting everything settled because we just started it a few weeks ago. Personally I would not trust just anyone with my kids so I do not leave them with just anyone. Somestimes I will not even leave them with family to be honest. We were lucky we had a teacher where we used to live that really liked our kids, and she would come over every now and then to give us a break. She brought over activities like she did in school, and took them out places as well. The kids loved her and it was a great fit for us. Now that we have left the state because of lack of services we have no one here, that is why we are trying to get the home heatlth aid.
